Abstract: Semiconductors are the central materials for optoelectronic and energy conversion devices. The key to their functionality lies in defects. I this talk, I will first introduce the defect tolerance characteristics we discovered in halide optoelectronic semiconductors using computational methods and explain their physical origins. Next, I will discuss the forward materials design through solving quantum mechanical equations and symbolic regression machine learning methods. Among these, the designed electrocatalytic water splitting material has been experimentally synthesized and demonstrated high catalytic activity. Finally, I will introduce our recently developed inverse materials design approach based on universal neural network potentials, which has been applied to materials design with high cohesive energy and high bulk modulus.
